Open Species - Gem Ponies - Completely Revamped!

GEM PONIES ARE AN OPEN SPECIES!

You may make as many as you like with a maximum of 2 Rare traits and 1 Extremely Rare trait (Mane Gradienting do not take up a rare trait)

Gem Ponies are now an Open Species! You may now make and sell your own. I only ask for TWO things:

- That I get credit for their creation
- That you only sell them for points

I decided since I love them but rarely have an urge to do anything with them and a few have asked about them to just make them open. So have fun and feel free to show me your ponies and ask if you have any questions!

- Crystallus Queens -
Gem Ponies are a Matriarchal society and so they are ruled by a 'queen'. A queen can be born or chosen, depending on the circumstances.
- A Born Queen is usually a daughter of a previous Queen, chosen to succeed her mother.
- A Chosen Queen comes about when a current Queen has no potential heirs and is chosen by a council. There is at all times a pool of 'potential queens', Mares who have what it takes to rule should there ever be need. This pool changes yearly, taking into account those who are now of age and those who are no longer of a proper age.
A Queen generally is a full grown Mare at the height of her maturity. It is not a requirement for a Queen to be an Alicorn. A Queen can be any of the kinds you come across in normal Equestrian ponies or even a hybrid. So long as she has what it takes, she can be queen. A Queen must be compassionate, just, knowledgeable and most importantly, willing to sacrifi  Gem Ponies - Habitats.: A Study into Crystallus Equus :.
- Habitats -
The habitat of a Gem Pony can vary depending on their colony location but certain things always remain the same: They are primarily subterranean creatures, preferring to dwell underground near great deposits of metals or crystals.
The colonies primarily make their homes in existing cave systems, usually ones with access to fresh water or sometimes under cliffsides by seas.
A Gem Pony requires few things for a proper habitat: A wide enough underground space in which to call home, access to fresh water, access to food - Gem Ponies sustain themselves on a diet of flowers, fruits and igneous rocks - and access to the outside world.
While they reside underground for the most part, Gem Ponies can and sometimes will traverse the surface, taking part in trade, agriculture and other overworldly things.
The four main Realms are known for their diversity in habitats, no one is in a similar region and have developed regio  Gem Ponies - Mutations.: A Study into Crystallus Equus :.

- The Various Mutations -

Gem Ponies can and sometimes will mutate depending on their region. These mutations can vary from different dietary needs to visual differences. What follows is a list of known mutation traits in Gem Ponies.
- Alicornism
Alicornism is indeed a mutation when it comes to Gem Ponies and is nothing like the 'natural' Alicornism you find in Terrestrial Ponies. It primarily happens when a Unicorn and Pegasus typed Pony mate and is more likely to occur if one parent is Terrestrial in origin. Alicorn Gem Ponies are not the gods one can normally expect from terrestrial alicorns but do retain greater powers than normal.

- Fluffier Coats
Fluffier Coats can occur in Gem Ponies who reside in colder climates. It acts as a natural insulator against the intense cold they will experience. It can sometimes be bred

- What is a Gem Pony?

A Gem Pony is a subspecies of normal ponies, with their actual origins being unknown.

- How do Gem Ponies live?

Gem Ponies live in large cities underground, almost always near great ore deposits. Unlike normal ponies, who are ruled by a Princess, Gem Ponies are ruled by a Queen, with each colony having their own Queen. Gem Ponies have a thriving trade market and a recent neutral alliance with the Dragons.

- How do Gem Ponies breed?

Since they're simply a subspecies of Pony, they can breed in the same way as Ponies although the Gem portion of their heritage is always obvious, usually in the 'Necklace' of crystals that forms on their neck.

Gem x Pony = Gem Pony (with a varying type between the two parents types, say unicorn x pegasus with a 50/50 chance on either)
Gem x Dragon = Mixed Breed - Dragon tail, slit pupil eyes, Gemstone features.
Gem x Griffin = Gem Pony with crystal talon feet - ALWAYS PEGASUS due to Griffin wings.
Gem x Draconequus = Not Compatible
Gem x Changeling = Not Compatible

- What are the characteristics of a Gem Pony?

Fullblood Gem Ponies will always have the following characteristics:

- More 'traditional' styled unicorn tails. The length of the tail and its tuft can vary. Some may have small tufts with long tails, other short tails with long tufts.
- Long ears with tufts on the ends.
- Cystals growing out of their head and neck, referred to as a crown and necklace respectively. These jewels can also grow in other places but those are rare.
- Crystal horns if Unicorns, Crystal feathers if Pegasi. Crystal hooves no matter what type. They also come in Alicorn type with both Crystal horns and feathers.
- Crystalline parts give off a beautiful pulsing glow.
- Cutie Marks relating to crystals and the like. Rarely a Gem Pony has a non-crystal cutie mark.
- Their manes/tails will always have a gradient to them as will their crystalline horn/wings/hooves. (RARE EXCEPTIONS)

Halfblood Gem Ponies will always have the following characteristics:

- Long ears with tufts on the ends.
- Cystals growing out of their neck, referred to as a necklace.

All other characteristics are considered optional when mixing species due to the mixing of such bloodlines.
